At Istanbul Modern, you can also visit the “Art Labyrinth” which is especially designed for children, youth and families as a parallel activity to the retrospective Erol Yavaş Exhibition. Children have the opportunity to know Akyavaş’s work better thanks to this special education project while they have the tour accompanied by an expert and “make art” in the art workshops themselves.

Admission is free to the exhibition that brings together works from different stages of Akyavaş’s art life, using different materials and focusing on different subjects.

The workshops in the program include Photo-Lines, which deals with the similarities and differences between photography and painting; Surprise Labyrinths that brings Ottoman miniature art, Ottoman calligraphy art “hat” and contemporary art together; Sceptic Geometry, in which geometrical objects are defined and families create visual arrangements using geometrical forms, and finally My Family Firman, to help families compose their own family edicts inspired by one of the valuable components of visual and written culture: firmans (or edicts, of the Ottoman kind).
