History: Yeni Asır could be defined as having the best summary of Turkish press history in its past. The newspaper was founded as “Asır” newspaper in 1895 in Thessaloniki by Professor Abdurrahman Nafiz, his son Lawyer Fazlı Necip and nephew Abdurrahman Arif Bilgin. The word “Yeni” was added to the name of the newspaper in 1908, just one day before the proclamation of the second constitutional period of the Ottoman Empire. Abdurrahman Arif Bilgin transferred the title of the grant holder of the newspaper to his on Ali Şevket Bilgin and became the editorial columnist.

Abdurrahman Arif Bilgin had a heart attack and died after his printing press was put in fire during 1917 fire in Thessaloniki. In the same year, the newspaper was censored and banned many times since Thessaloniki was lost to the Greeks and it continued its life as a French language paper. After the death of his father, Ali Şevket Bilgin and his family left Thessaloniki for İzmir in accordance with the Treaty of Lausanne Ali Şevket Bilgin was determined to continue the continuation of Yeni Asır, thus he started its printing in İzmir. 80 years later, Ali Şevket Bilgin transferred the management of Yeni Asır to his son Dinç Bilgin in 1975. Dinç Bilgin developed his father story of success by introducing many matchless institutions such as the newspaper Sabah and ATV television channel to the Turkish public; he became an unforgettable figure of the Turkish press himself as well. Yeni Asır, which started its printing in İzmir 84 years ago and celebrates its 118th year this year, has been the center of many revolutions in the Turkish press.
