Could you tell us about yourself?

My name is Patrick Lewis, I am from New York and I am 27 years old. I have lived in Istanbul for four years. I completed a masters degree here, and have worked as a teacher, editor and translator.

Why did you come to Istanbul? What has changed in your life since you arrived?

I first came to Istanbul to study, but to decided to remain in the city and work after I completed my degree. Although I am returning to start a PhD in the United States, where among other things I will researching on Turkey. I will continue to return to the city and hope to live here again in the future.

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when we say Istanbul?

Istanbul is one of the world’s truly unique cities, with a geography and history that you cannot find anyway else. It is also a city that is undergoing rapid change, and being here and experiencing that chance is a special opportunity.

Which aspect of Istanbul excites you?

One shouldn’t miss the chance to watch a Beşiktaş match at a meyhane in the Beşiktaş Çarşı.
