As unique as can be, the legendary Icelandic band Sigur Rós will bring their one of a kind atmosphere to Zorlu Performing Arts Center on June 11th.

Reykjavik based band started their musical saga in 1994. The band took their name from frontman Jónsi Birgisson’s younger sister Sigurrós. Their debut album Von was released in 1997 and the second album, which also brought them a worldwide recognition, Ágætis byrjun, was released two years later in 1999 and the rest is history…

In 2001 Sigur Rós released their third album ( ). All six songs were also untitled and lyrics were written in Vonlenska. Vonlenska, also known as Hopelandic, is a language made up by the band itself and it has no grammer, meaning, nor words. In the following years they released their fourth studio album Takk…, a more rock oriented album with a distinctive guitar sound and their fifth album Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust, a more pop oriented album which also has the first Sigur Rós track that is sung in English, “All Alright”. In 2012 and 2013, band had it’s most prolific years and released two albums in such a short time. Those two albums, Valtari and Kveikur, clinched their success in post-rock, ambient and dream pop sound and paved their way to stardom.

Apart from their critically hailed albums, a variety of Sigur Rós songs were featured in movies and TV shows such as Vanilla Sky, 24, CSI, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Skins, Children of Men, Slumdog Millionaire and 127 Hours. In HBO’s iconic TV show Game of Thrones, Sigur Ros played a cameo role and performed one of the well known songs of the show “The Rains of Castemere”. They also appeared on The Simpsons episode called “The Saga of Carl”, where they scored original music for the episode, along with their own interpretation of the famous opening theme. On June 11th, Sigur Rós will bring their unique sound along with their equally brilliant stage performance to Zorlu Performing Arts Center. Don’t miss this mesmerizing experience
