Şile is located on the Asian by the shores of the Black Sea. One of the laid back seaside towns of Istanbul, Şile is popular with its green nature. The first settlement at Şile dates back to Greeks. Called as Philee, Shila, Aschill, Artena and Killo throughout the history, Şile hosts a number of caves, which has been used as residences once.

With its rough terrain and dense forest, it was only possible to reach Şile through the sea for a long time. Today, Şile is one of the top visited places with its natural beauties, historical and cultural sights.

Besides the walks around the forest and attractions by the se, at Şile, you can visit the lighthouse which has been constructed between 1858-1859 by the French with directives of Sultan Aziz and the castle of Şile which has been constructed by the Geneose and later used by the Ottomans.

Şile also known with its unique cloth. Called Şile bezi in Turkish, this cloth even has a festival. Held on the first week of July and the first week of August, this festival which complies with Şile and becomes traditional, has turned into a culture and art fiesta gradually. Traditional “Festival of Şile Cloth” with participants from all over the world, has reached to an international qualification.
