Founder: İsmail Efendi 

History: The story of Petek Leather started in Skopje, today the capital of the Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia, with İsmail Efendi whose occupation was leathercraft and tanning. 

İsmail Efendi’s son Hüseyin, born in 1882, was enthusiastic about his father’s profession. His father taught him about tanning and the intricacies of the profession, but this wasn’t enough for Hüseyin. Thus, he went to Austria, which was the center of the craft, with a friend to work with a renowned master of the time and he learned a great deal about the techniques useful for this profession. Later, he returns to Köprülü, Macedonia and carries on with the business adding his knowledge to his father’s experience. Then the Köprülü residents started to call him “Saraç Hüseyin” after his profession. 

Thus, Saraç Hüseyin started to earn a deserved reputation in other towns and cities as well. In due time, Saraç Hüseyin noticed that his elder son Hamdi is also enthusiastic about the profession and he decided to trains as the future heir of the family tradition, following the professional customs of artisanship. 

Saraç Hamdi moved to Turkey 1954 and the family adopts the surname “Saraçkardeşler”. Hamdi Saraçkardeşler continues with the business in Turkey from this date on. 

The sons of Hamdi Saraçkardeşler; Kemal, Mustafa and İsmet, have been working hard and meticulously to keep their family profession alive under the name of “Petek Saraciye” as the fourth generation members of the family. Their products are manufactured under the brand name “PETEK-1855” to the global market with an understanding of excellent quality and modern design. 

Petek has become stronger than ever by the presence of the fifth generation and now it is a company appealed by the top brands of the market for manufacturing on their behalf.
