Cumhuriyet Art Gallery of Taksim (Turkish: Taksim Cumhuriyet Sanat Galerisi) is located at the entrance to İstiklal where it meets with Taksim square. It is located in the Taksim Historical Water Depot (Turkish: Taksim Tarihi Su Deposu), which was built in 1730 -1 as a solution to the city’s increasing water demands. The octagonal structure was a meeting place for water lines and was used to distribute water to different parts of the city in equal quantities. After it fell into disuse, the depot was used for some time as a tourist office, and, after restoration in 2008, was opened as the Republic Art Gallery of Taksim.
