The hatred of the two noble families of Verona, the Montagues and the Capulets, cannot stop the two youngsters’ love at first sight, which seals their destiny. By the tragic suicide of these two lovers, the death drags the bodies under the ground while the souls seek the sky, and families are consumed by remorse.
Love is the absolute feeling with which the two lovers find their place in the world. Love moves from human experience to encompass the en>re universe. Death becomes the ultimate court for those who remain. Shakespeare is above darkness and light.
In Romeo e Giulietta, Ama e Cambia il Mondo, music recreates this scenario. It both respects and betrays Shakespeare, as happens in every authentic interpretation of a classic.
The dramatic structure is maintained, however, by placing the emotions of the characters at its centre. On stage, we see the path of their souls, including their fears, their impulses and their failures.
Light, illuminating the feuds and hiding the passions, is returned us here with music, which fills the colours of evil with force and outlines forms of good with gentle pastels.
The rhythm is at the service of madness and abandonment of morality. The ballads, instead, highlight the deeper psychology, the passion, the interminable waiting and the torture of the two lovers.
