One of the works from the architect Sinan’s master period, the Sokullu Şehit Mehmet Paşa was built in the memory of Sokullu Mehmet Paşa, who served as Grand Vizier to three different sultans.
Built on a steep hill the mosque has three external doors. The fountain In the middle of its marble courtyard has many enclaves around its edges which have been used by countless madrassa students over the years. The mosque is adorned inside with red and blue tiles, and its acoustics and lighting, as with all of Sinan’s works, are magnificent. It is one the most important works of Sinan found in the city.
