The Great Palace Mosaic Museum (Büyük Saray Mozaikleri Müzesi) was built to preserve a surviving portion of the mosaics covering the courtyard of the Great Palace of Constantinople that was uncovered during archaeological excavations in the 1950’s in the Arasta Bazaar(Turkish: Arasta Çarşısı). Thanks to extensive restoration undertaken from 1983 to1997, the eye-catching mosaics are to be enjoyed today.
With brilliant craftsmanship the mosaics made between 450-550 C.E., depict daily life, mythological stories and natural scenes. Do not miss seeing these historical works of art during your tour to Sultanahmet district.
